In her undergraduate career, Katie focused on biology with emphasis on the neural and behavioral sciences. Although her undergraduate work was with C. elegans genetics, Katie decided that the worms didn’t hold conversations as well as people did. Her work at the Adult Day Center of Somerset County (a non-profit medical senior citizen day care center) had been providing conversation opportunities since she was 16, and she knew, with all the infinite wisdom of a teenager, that she wanted to work with older people for the rest of her life. This drive and motivation to work with older adults did not fade, and she currently is working to better understand aging and how she can help older adults experience a high quality of life. She is currently a doctoral candidate with a primary interest in adult day services. She is also working on her MBA and has completed her Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities. Katie serves as President of Sigma Phi Omega and on committees in the community and in the department. Katie lives in Lexington with her husband, dog, and rabbit.
