Debra is Professor and holder of the first endowed chair of nursing at the University of Kentucky. In addition to her academic position, she is the co-editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. She is the author of more than 120 peer-reviewed journal articles, 2 books and presents nationally and internationally. Her research program has received more than $6 million in funding. Her work has been recognized with more than 21 awards, including the Heart Failure Research Prize from the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Nursing. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Heart Association. Her research area is heart failure, specifically improving patient outcomes using nonpharmacologic strategies and optimal health care delivery models. In addition, she studies ways to decrease patient delay in seeking treatment for ACS symptoms.
