Tina Kruger is interested in emotional changes in women throughout the life course, especially the sense of purposelessness some women develop in mid to late life. She is also interested in neurodegeneration and hopes to help develop treatments for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. She is currently working with Dr. Faika Zanjani on the Mental Healthiness Aging Initiative to improve mental and physical health in aging residents of 20 counties in Northeastern and Eastern Kentucky. Soon, Tina will begin working with Rodney Guttmann to examine the role of the calpain system in proteolysis of cytoskeletal proteins such as tau (the protein that comprises the hallmark tangles in Alzheimer’s pathology). Outside of her academic pursuits, Tina enjoys being physically active. She enjoys tae kwon do (she recently received her black belt), reading, quilting, cooking, hiking, and gaming.
