Welcome to the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. By now you have established a routine of school, study and exploring Lexington. Today, I want to introduce to you the Department of Family
& Community Medicine. The College of Medicine has a long history of supporting the primary care ambitions of its students. When students choose a primary care career, the university promotes its mission to improve the health and health care available throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
If you are interested in a primary care specialty or are considering a career as a Family
Medicine physician, we want you to know that our faculty are willing to serve as academic advisors.
The process is very simple.
-
Please review the
faculty profiles. While there, feel free to explore
other areas of the predoctoral division's or department website.
-
Once you have
determined that you would like to have a Family Medicine mentor please use our
Online Request Form
and indicate on the the Online Request Form that you "Want
an Advisor".
-
Once
your request has been received, one of our divisional staff members work with you to
help arrange the first meeting. Some of the issues you can discuss with your mentor
are: electives, rotation schedules for the third year, and to
have them review or sign off on your fourth year schedule. You
will find the interaction to be relaxed and that our faculty are
flexible to fit your needs and schedule.
Thank you for taking time to consider your future.
We hope you find your years here at the University of Kentucky
College of Medicine to be both enriching (as you learn about the diversity of medicine and people)
and rewarding. We, in the Department of Family & Community Medicine
look forward to seeing you through these exciting years.
