Message from the Director

Dear Future Family Physician:

I am extremely pleased that you have chosen to visit the web site of the University of Kentucky Department of Family and Community Medicine. I feel we have an excellent program that prepares our residents well for their career in Family Medicine. Our mission statement demonstrates our three-fold purpose to recruit excellent students, to provide training that is second to none and individualized to the resident’s needs, and to graduate Family Physicians who will become well-respected clinicians in their community. Lexington is a vibrant city with ample opportunity for activities outside of residency. We also possess a small town atmosphere with our abundant horse farms and rolling hills just outside the city limits. Our training encompasses experiences in a busy tertiary care hospital as well as providing continuity hospital care in a smaller more patient-centered, community hospital within UK Healthcare. We also utilize community sites both in Lexington and in surrounding rural communities, allowing our program to have the best of both worlds and prepare our residents well for a wide variety of patient care needs.  The future of healthcare and primary  care needs well-trained, well-rounded family physicians who not only can take care of all people, but also care about people.  Whether you seek to practice in rural, urban, underserved area, or in a small, group or multispecialty practice, we have something to offer you at the University of Kentucky. Please take your time visiting our web site and feel free to contact our Residency Coordinator or me.

Best Wishes,
Michael King, M.D.
Residency Program Director
