Dr. Tamara Knox
is a 1992 graduate of Wright State University in Clinical Psychology.
She has spent the last 15 years in rural practice, during which time she
established an accredited pre-doctoral psychology internship program,
served as program coordinator for an in-patient psychiatric unit, and
participated in the initial development of clinical policy for a one
hundred bed psychiatric facility. She was recognized by the Kentucky
Psychological Association (KPA) as the Eastern/Northern Regional
Outstanding Psychologist of the Year in 2000, and she currently serves
as a Representative-at-Large for KPA.
Within the past
seven years her interests have led her to working within primary care
settings, in particular focusing upon the provision of psychological
services within rural and community health centers. As Director of
Behavioral Science for the UK Department of Family and Community
Medicine, East Kentucky Campus, she is responsible for the development
and implementation of the behavioral science curriculum within the
residency program, as well as the integration of psychological services
within the residency’s affiliated training site, UK North Fork Valley
Community Health Center. She precepts residents during their Community
Medicine Rotation and provides oversight to family practice residents in
the execution and documentation of relevant health related research
projects (a longitudinal project that spans the three year residency
program).
Her
interests include the development of integrated health care teams,
accessibility and delivery of health care services, and rural mental
health care. She is committed to improving the health and well-being of
community members through multidisciplinary training and service
learning, the preparation of students for leadership
positions, and the provision of engaged
scholarship that addresses significant contextual and relevant
problems.
