The East Kentucky Family Medicine Residency Program
is a community based program
designed to prepare residents for meeting the unique
demands of a rural practice and for providing quality
care in rural settings. The program is the only
residency in the medical center and residents enjoy a
one-on-one training experience with their preceptors.
Committed to the common vision of improving health to
rural people, the faculty has implemented a
well-functioning curriculum that addresses the unique
intricacies of rural medicine. The curriculum
provides the residents with excellent training in the
diagnosis and treatment of disease, and also
emphasizes community-oriented primary care, which is
so vital to rural medical practice. The faculty
members are well trained in their specialties and
prepared to carry out the mission of the program.
Over 60% of the program’s graduates have chosen rural
practice, the vast majority in Kentucky. |
