Our Program...

of the East Kentucky Family Medicine Residency Program is to prepare family practitioners for careers in rural medicine who are dedicated to meeting the health care needs of the people of rural Appalachia. The training is designed to prepare residents for meeting the unique demands of a rural practice and for providing quality care in rural settings. Over 69 percent of the program’s graduates have chosen rural practice, the vast majority in Kentucky.

Residency Program
The East Kentucky Family Medicine Residency Program is a community based, University-administered program accredited and approved for four residents in each post-graduate year. The residency enjoys strong collaborative relationships with the three medical schools in Kentucky: University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine (PCSOM).

UK Center for Rural Health
The presence of the residency in the University of Kentucky Center for Rural Health (UKCRH) offers a unique opportunity for multi-disciplinary education with a variety of health professionals and collaboration with community programs. The Kentucky State Office of Rural Health is located at UKCRH and offers assistance to health professionals with student loan repayment.
