Diabetes Outpatient Intensive Treatment Program

Self-management training services are offered covering a complete range of topics related to your diabetes. The focus of the program is personal goal setting and the development of a plan to help you achieve your goals. The UK Diabetes Program has access to research in the latest developments in diabetes care. A variety of topics and management options are offered.

  1. Blood sugar monitoring, sick day rules, traveling guidelines, intensive insulin injection programs and insulin pump therapy.
  2. Individualized eating program tailored to your lifestyle, habits and medical needs. Instructions on eating out, shopping techniques, and weight-reducing diets.
  3. Our certified educators offer innovative, effective instruction incorporating diabetes management into an active lifestyle.

  2. Educational Objectives include:
    1. Identify diabetes as a chronic disorder of metabolism in which the body is unable to use food properly for energy, resulting in hyperglycemia
    2. Identify the pancreas as the organ that makes the hormone, insulin.
    3. Define hyperglycemia and list the symptoms
    4. Understand several factors that may contribute to the development of diabetes
    5. Understand that learning about diabetes and self-care is an important factor in the management of diabetes

    Our board-certified pediatric endocrinologists and pediatric diabetes educators offer a comphrensive program designed to meet the needs of children and adolescents.

    Diabetes Education results in improved diabetes control which clearly results in decreased complications from diabetes. Diabetes education is a worthwhile investment. Individualized classes, series of three cost $60 per session payable at registration.
