 Introduction

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kentucky offers a residency program that focuses on the practice of clinical emergency medicine. Our philosophy is simple: The practice of emergency medicine is best learned in the emergency department. In keeping with this philosophy, the three year program places emphasis on rotation in the emergency department in each of the three years. The first year residents rotate for six months in the emergency department. In the second year eight months and in the third year ten months are spent rotating in the emergency department with one of those months being spent in a community hospital each year. Our goal is to prepare expert emergency clinicians with the knowledge and skills to practice state of the art emergency medicine in any clinical setting.
