4th Year Rotation

Students electing to perform their clinical rotation at the University of Kentucky work closely with UK emergency department attending faculty, residents and nursing staff in health care delivery at UK Chandler Medical Center which cares for over 40,000 high acuity patients per year and supports an RRC accredited residency in emergency medicine with 24 residents. An off-site community ED practice opportunity also is available for University of Kentucky College of Medicine medical students coordinated with AHEC. The rotation consists of approximately 24 hours of didactic and hands-on instruction, required readings provided by the department, 88 hours of clinical duties in the emergency department and an EMS ride-along. Students are also welcome to attend any emergency medicine residency conferences. Evaluations consist of a comprehensive examination based on the readings, an oral case presentation, a case management scenario and multiple clinical evaluations by faculty and residents. This is the ideal rotation for those students interested in exploring the opportunities offered in the emergency medicine residency at the University of Kentucky.
