Chief ResidentsThe Chief Residents in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky are integral to the success of the residency program. The three Chief Residents assist the Residency Program Director in administering the Residency Program. They are responsible for the resident scheduling, conferences, including Grand Rounds, and they direct morning report at both the University and Veteran's Administration hospitals. In addition, each chief resident serves as an attending for one of the ward teams for four months each year, teaches medical students in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine Introduction to Clinical Medicine courses, and gives one Grand Rounds. The Chief Residents assist in the recruitment of internal medicine interns by interviewing candidates, scheduling residents to provide tours, and by taking the candidates to lunch along with other residents. The Chief Residents serve on the Internship Selection Committee, the Resident Evaluation Committee, the Educational Advisory Committee, and other hospital committees. At times, they serve an advocacy role for the residents with the Residency Program Director and hospital administration. The Chief Residents have all completed three years of internal medicine training. They are selected during their second year of residency by the faculty with resident input.
