RecruitingAll positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). For 2012, it is anticipated there will be 19 Categorical, 6 Primary Care, 6 Med-Peds, and 2 preliminary positions offered through the NRMP. All applications are through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All applications are through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Candidates are invited for interviews based on their application, including personal statements, medical school transcript, United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores (Step 1 and Step 2 if available), and three recommendation letters.
Additional Program RequirementsAll applications are considered. We do not have a minimum USMLE score and we do consider COMLEX scores, although the USMLE is preferred. For Foreign Medical Graduates -- We do not have minimum USMLE score requirements, but you must be ECFMG certified by June 30 of the year you are wishing to start residency. We do not require US clinical experience. We prefer graduation from medical school within the last 3-4 years unless you have been practicing clinical medicine since graduation. The University of Kentucky generally will only sponsor J1 Visas. All Visa decisions are made by the Graduate Medical Education office, not by the Department of Internal Medicine. InterviewsInterview days are scheduled for most Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from October 23, 2012 through January 25, 2013.

The night before the interview, internal medicine residents take the intern candidates to dinner at one of the local restaurants. The intern candidates are provided a hotel room free of charge, excluding incidental expenses at the Hilton Suites - Lexington Green. The candidates are provided transportation to the University the next morning. We encourage all candidates to ride the hotel shuttle to their interview.
