Volunteers Needed for Research Study on the Effects of Dietary Supplements in the Treatment of Gum Disease
The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry Delta Dental of Kentucky Clinical Research Center is conducting a clinical research study on new, non-surgical treatments for gum disease.
You may be able to participate if you:
• are 18 years old or older and
• have, or suspect that you have gum disease.
It is known that the dietary addition of fish has beneficial effects on inflammation and disease. The purpose of this study is to evaluate if a daily dietary supplement of omega 3 fatty acids (fish oils) has a beneficial effect in the treatment of gum disease when combined with normal standards of care. Qualified participants will receive compensation for completing the study, and all study treatment will be provided at no cost.

Volunteers Needed for Gum Disease Treatment Research Study
The Faculty and Staff of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry Center for Oral Health Research are conducting a clinical research study on the treatment of gum disease.
You may be able to participate if you:
• are between the ages of 18 and 75;
• have, or suspect that you have, gum disease; and
• have deep gum pockets associated with your gum disease.
This study will evaluate the effects of treating gum disease by combining a deep cleaning of gums and teeth with a new formulation of the FDA-approved drug Periostat®.
Qualified participants will receive compensation for completing the study, and all study treatments will be provided at no cost.

Volunteers Needed for Myofascial Pain Study
The Faculty and Staff of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry's Orofacial Pain Center are recruiting volunteers for a pilot research project on myofascial pain.
You may be eligible to participate if you:
• are a woman; and
• are having face pain or headaches while at the same time experiencing neck and shoulder stiffness, tightness or pain.
Eligible participants will receive a local anesthetic injection to the shoulder region. At the same time, shoulder muscle activity will be recorded using surface electromyography.

Tobacco Smoking Volunteers Needed for Study of Saliva
The faculty and staff of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and College of Medicine are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the usefulness of saliva as a diagnostic fluid.
You may be eligible to participate if you:
• are at least 18 years of age;
• are a current tobacco smoker; and
• are willing to contribute two teaspoons of saliva and two teaspoons of venous blood.

Cardiovascular Patients Needed for Saliva Study
The faculty and staff of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and College of Medicine are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the usefulness of saliva as a diagnostic fluid.
You may be eligible to participate if you:
• are at least 18 years of age;
• have cardiovascular disease; or
• high blood pressure; and
• are willing to contribute two teaspoons of saliva and two teaspoons of venous blood.

Arthritis Patients Needed for Saliva Study
The faculty and staff of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and College of Medicine are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the usefulness of saliva as a diagnostic fluid.
You may be eligible to participate if you:
• are at least 18 years of age;
• have one of the following conditions:
• rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis,
• scleroderma, or Sjögren's syndrome, or
• fibromyalgia; and
• are willing to contribute two teaspoons of saliva and two teaspoons of venous blood.
