This effort is to provide a biological basis for more effective therapies of craniofacial bone anomalies or trauma. Successful basic and translational studies could be readily leveraged with private industry already interested in this problem, thus using the academic environment of UK to attract the industry into the region/state.

Certain of the biological materials and/or processes, as well as characterization of structural bioresorbables and new biomedical metallurgic devices could result in local start-up companies. These studies have been stimulated by funded research grants focusing on assessment of new tool design for increasing implant success; as well as new biomaterials for bone regeneration.
