The University of Kentucky is the Commonwealth's land-grant university. The College of Pharmacy was established iin 1870 as the Louisville College of Pharmacy and began its affiliation with the University of Kentucky in 1947, moving to the Lexington campus in 1957. The College has been housed in its present building in the Medical Center complex since 1985. In 2005, the Kentucky Legislature allocated final funding for construction of a new Pharmacy Building to be occupied in 2010. The new building will increase research laboratories and support by 75 percent, and teaching laboratories and classrooms by 80 percent.
