RESEARCH CLINIC:
Overview
Specifics

How Does it Work and Why Participate?

Following your evaluation in the Memory Disorders Clinic, you may be asked to participate in our research clinic for annual follow-up. Your participation helps us to better understand memory and thinking disorders that affect the elderly, such as Alzheimer's disease. Research discoveries that will lead to cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's, frontotemporal dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, vascular dementia, and other related diseases, are only made possible through research participation by persons like you and your loved ones.

Who Can Join?

Research participation in this clinic is open to all persons that are experiencing memory and thinking problems, regardless of diagnosis, age, gender, ethnicity or racial heritage. Involvement includes annual visits with a trained staff neurologist for physical and neurological examination and memory and thinking testing. Participation is open to persons of all genders, racial backgrounds, and ethnicities. Minority participants are encouraged to enroll.

What Happens if I Enroll?

Ongoing care is provided free of charge to enrolled participants. At the UK Alzheimer's Disease Center we are staffed by neurologists, geriatricians, neuropsychologists, social workers, and other staff to support you and your family. The family support and educational services provided as part of your research participation are free of charge. These are often the most important services we provide to help keep you and your loved ones enjoying the maximal quality of life one can experience, while facing the difficulties experienced as a result of progressive memory and thinking impairment. We ask that all participants give the gift of brain donation at death, to help us in our search for cures for the often devastating diseases you or your loved ones suffer from.

Why Join?

Most experts agree that we may be able to find better treatments, and possibly cures for Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, in the next decade, but only with the continued support of research participants like you and your loved ones.

We hope you will consider this unique opportunity to contribute to our ongoing research efforts. Please help us to realize a day when Alzheimer's disease is nothing more than a memory - well preserved!
