Research Opportunities Conducted in Collaboration between the Lexington
Clinic and the UK Alzheimer's Disease Center and the Sanders-Brown Center
on Aging
- ROZEREM for the treatment of sleep disturbances in moderate
to severe AD
- Pharmaceutical trial conducted by Takeda Global Research and Development
Center http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00325728?order=48
- Greg Cooper, M.D., Ph.D. http://www.mc.uky.edu/neurology/cooper.html
serves as the principle investigator
- Funding: Takeda Global
- UK IRB#
- Rozerem is a non-addictive sleep aid that may help with sleep disorders
associated with Alzheimer's disease, and with little effect on cognitive
function, unlike other sleep medicines that can further impair memory
and thinking function in AD

- High Dose Aricept© (donepezil) for the treatment of moderate
to severe Alzheimer’s disease
- Pharmaceutical trial conducted by Pfizer-Esai
- Greg Cooper, M.D., Ph.D. http://www.mc.uky.edu/neurology/cooper.html
serves as the principle investigator
- Funding: Pfizer-Esai
- UK IRB#
- The current maximum approved dose of Aricept© (donepezil)was determined
in studies of persons with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. Higher
doses may be more beneficial in persons with worsening Alzheimer’s
disease given the progression of brain cells as the disease progresses.
This trial hopes to establish the optimal doses for use in the mid
and later stages of disease to maximize quality of life and improve
symptom control for persons with Alzheimer’s disease.
