AADOP African American Dementia Outreach Partnership
Program Goals:
To increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease through community education
To provide culturally sensitive care to patients and support to families at a Memory Care Clinic located in the African-American community
To establish and maintain support groups for family caregivers and provide free memory check ups to identify disease early when current drugs are most effective.
What is Alzheimer's Disease?
A disease that causes a gradual loss of brain cells and decline in thinking skills
The leading cause of dementia among those age 65 and older
More prevalent with a greater risk among African Americans
Alzheimer’s Disease is a silent epidemic among African Americans!
Diagnosis
A diagnostic work-up will include:
Your medical history
A physical exam
Laboratory Tests
Memory Testing
