Advanced CV Imaging

The Gill Heart Institute at the University of Kentucky is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for an Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship Program beginning July 2016.

The fellowship provides at least one year of training in all advanced cardiac imaging modalities. The program is directed by Vincent L. Sorrell, MD, Director of Cardiovascular Imaging for the Gill Heart Institute, and is a collaborative effort between the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Department of Radiology. The program takes place at the state-of-the-art Jack and Linda Gill Heart Institute on the beautifully expanded and renovated University of Kentucky medical campus.

Training includes:
  • Advanced techniques in 2D- and 3D-echocardiography
  • Strain and speckle tracking echocardiography
  • Nuclear training on SPECT cameras with CT attenuation correction
  • Training with two 64-slice, dual-source CT scanners
  • Thoracic non-cardiac computed tomography
  • Training with 1.5T and 3.0T state-of-the-art dedicated cardiac MRI scanners
  • Advanced multidisciplinary transesophageal echocardiography teaching program using a TEE/TTE Manikin Simulator
  • Non-invasive peripheral angiography
A multimodal approach enhances the fellows understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each diagnostic tool. Fellows also perform clinical cardiovascular imaging research and have the opportunity to participate in pre-clinical studies (Vevo 2100 high resolution system for cardiac and vascular imaging in small animal models). Research in cardiovascular medicine is supported annually by approximately $10 million in extramural funds for basic and clinical research.
