In conclusion, BPIP created a business-wise culture that incorporated a true partnership approach. We reduced "finger pointing" and internal strife by engaging system critics along with talented, motivated staff and physicians into a successful process. We learned we should never assume financial systems can't be improved. We also learned to never assume indigent and underinsured patients can't be helped and improve both their situation and our own.
Organizations should not allow revenue to "slip through the cracks." They should account for and aggressively pursue every dollar that is earned. Patient registrations can be accurate into the 90th percentile. Staff skills should be built and the group professionalized. Create career ladders built on measurable performance to retain your "best and brightest." Engage physicians in business improvement and let them show the benefits to their colleagues.
Break your business processes into workable parts. Don't make assumptions. Let the data and facts guide you to your goals. If the business and financial systems cannot effectively support your health care system - "no margin, no mission" - then the result is inevitable.
