Our laboratory has a long-standing interest in the development of new synthetic methods, the synthesis of natural products and the development of photoactive analogs of natural products for elucidating receptor binding. As part of an Organic Synthesis Core facility under an NIH COBRE grant, we provide consultation and synthetic support to biomedical scientists who need “small molecule” probes of a variety of types.

One current area of interest is focused on the development of modified natural products for treating diseases of alternative splicing. We are actively collaborating with Professor Stefan Stamm to develop tethered natural product-oligonucleotides as reagents that alter specific stages of spliceosome formation. Several other collaborations are also in progress.
