The University of Kentucky Center in Biomedical Excellence (COBRE) in the Molecular Basis of Human Disease will again make available two pilot research grants to start on August 1, 2007.  These pilot grants are intended to assist young investigators or investigators changing fields to generate sufficient data to apply for extramural funding.  They are awarded in the amount of up to $50,000 per year for two years.  To be eligible for these pilot grants, the individual cannot have or have had an RO1 type NIH grant or the equivalent NSF grant.  Individuals who have or have had other types of grants such as NIH K or R21 awards or association or foundation awards are eligible.

The application receipt deadline for this current round of funding is Friday, May 18, 2007 by 5:00 pm.  No late applications will be accepted.  The grants will run from August 1, 2007 to July 31, 2009.

You can obtain the pilot grant application form at the COBRE in the Molecular Basis of Human Disease website:
http://www.mc.uky.edu/biochemistry/cobre/forms.asp. An electronic version of the completed forms and any questions should be sent via email to aarno2@uky.edu.  You do not need IRB or IACUC approvals at the time of submission, but will need these before funding.
