Mentoring is an important part of the Girls in Research program. Women volunteer their time to work with our girls providing support and encouragement. Research shows that mentoring helps improve school performance and increase self esteem.
The girls in our program are paired with two mentors when they begin the program. One mentor is affiliated with the University of Kentucky, while the other mentor is from the girls' local community.
We have a mentor activity on Tuesday nights while the girls are at camp. This year we painted flower pots and built hot air balloons. As you will see not all projects work out perfectly!
