Research Interests

Maintaining normoglycemia requires the production and secretion of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas. Defects in insulin production and secretion result in diabetes, which affects over 8% of the American population. Dr. Özcan’s laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms by which changes in glucose levels regulate insulin production and pancreatic beta-cell function.
