American Academy of Family Physicians -- Provides high quality links to sites relevant to practice, information for patients, and full-text of the journal American Family Physician, among other resources.  http://www.aafp.org

American Academy of Nurse Practitioners -- Don't miss their "Healthcare Site Links" section.  It includes eleven pages of links arranged by subject for issues important to the profession and clinical care.  http://www.aanp.org

American Academy of Pediatrics -- Includes AAP Practice Parameters and Policy Statements as well as patient education handouts, CME information and excellent links.  http://www.aap.org

American Nurses Association -- Includes ANA position statements, press releases, CE opportunities, and the Online Journal of Issues in Nursing.

American Society of Health-System Pharmacists -- Their "Practice Resource Areas" provides information on a variety of ASHP services, advocacy efforts, and outreach programs geared toward pharmacy practice.  http://www.ashp.org

National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians -- The "links" section provides a variety of resources helpful to those in the emergency field.  http://www.naemt.org

National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive Disorders & Kidney Diseases -- Includes excellent patient education information including Spanish and easy-to-read formats.  http://www.niddk.nih.gov

CLINICAL RESOURCES

Centers for Disease Control & Prevention -- Contains traveler's health information, immunization guidelines, and other important infectious disease information, as well as the CDC Prevention Guidelines.   Site also contains the full-text of the MMWR and the Emerging Infectious Disease Journalhttp://www.cdc.gov

Clinical Practice Guidelines -- From the US Agency for Health Care Policy and Research.  http://text.nlm.nih.gov/ftrs/dbaccess/ahcpr

Diagnostic Procedures Handbook Online -- Details 294 common and less common procedures for practitioners and other healthcare professionals at all experience levels.  http://www.healthgate.com/dph/html

Rx List -- Provides profiles of FDA approved drugs.  http://www.rxlist.com

Virtual Hospital -- Maintained by the University of Iowa, this site provides a wealth of information for healthcare providers including multimedia textbooks, teaching files, and patient simulations.  http://www.vh.org

DATABASES

CancerNet -- Produced by the National Cancer Institute, a free bibliographic database from the US government.  Includes three sections geared toward patients, health professionals, and researchers.  http://www.cancernet.nci.nih.gov

Internet Grateful Med -- Provides free searching of MEDLINE as well as 14 other NLM databases focused on AIDS, bioethics, toxicology, health administration, and other topics.  http://igm.nlm.nih.gov

PubMed -- Search engine that provides free access to NLM's MEDLINE database.  Includes basic, advanced and special clinical search features, as well as links to some full-text articles.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed

SpringNet -- from the Springhouse Corporation, publisher of a wide variety of nursing journals.  Go to their "Nursing Library" link which contains a free bibliographic database called RNdex.  http://www.springnet.com

CONSUMER HEALTH

Family Doctor -- Excellent patient handouts and other materials written and reviewed by the physicians and patient education professionals at the American Academy of Family Physicians.  The information is regularly reviewed and updated.  The site has a search feature as well as the ability to browse by body system or special population.  http://familydoctor.org

HealthFinder -- A gateway consumer health web site from the US government.  http://www.healthfinder.org

National Institute of Mental Health Public Information -- Includes brochures, press releases, fact sheets, and other educational materials from the NIMH aimed at the consumer.  http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/index.htm

OHSU Libraries: Patient Education Resources for Clinicians -- Provides links to many organizations' high-quality patient handouts, including non-English and low-literacy information resources.  http://www.ohsu.edu/bicc-Library/patiented/links.html
