The Southeast Kentucky AHEC Library has a wide variety of databases to meet the information needs of consumers, students, and healthcare providers.  Computer literacy is not required to access this information as the library staff works individually with every patron to provide instruction in using the computers and guidance in searching for information most relevant to the user's needs.

Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual Library Databases
The Southeast AHEC Library is a participant in the KCVL project and has on site access to the following databases:

     FIRST SEARCH:

  • ASTA - applied science and technology abstracts
  • ArticleFirst - an OCLC index of articles from nearly 12,500 journals.
  • BioAgIndex - leading publications in biology and agriculture.
  • ContentsFirst - an OCLC table of contents from nearly 12,500 journals.
  • ERIC - journal articles and reports in education.
  • GPO - U.S. government publications.
  • MEDLINE - all aspects of medicine, including nursing and dentistry.
  • NetFirst - an OCLC database of Internet resources.
  • PAIS - public affairs information service database
  • PapersFirst - an index of papers presented at conferences worldwide.
  • Proceedings - an index of worldwide conference proceedings.
  • UnionLists - OCLC union list of periodicals.
  • WorldAlmanac - the World Almanacs.
  • WorldBook - the World Book Encyclopedia.
  • WorldCat - books and other materials in libraries worldwide.

     EBSCO:

  • MEDLINE - citations from 1966 to present, also includes full text for nearly 80 journals from 1990 to present. 
  • CINAHL  - Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature.
  • PsycINFO - produced by the APA, provides indexing and abstracts from 1984 to present including dissertations, books, and book chapters.
  • Academic Search Elite - provides full text for over 1200 journals covering the social sciences, humanities, general science, multi-cultural studies, etc.
  • Clinical Reference Systems - provides over 7000 reports in layman's terms about a variety of medical topics and conditions.
  • Health Source Plus - provides full text for over 255 health magazines, 1,065 health pamphlets, and 23 health reference books for the layman. 
  • USP DI Volume II, Advice for the Patient -  provides patient-oriented drug information in lay language. 
  • Newspaper Source - provides selected full text articles from 143 U.S. and international newspapers. 
  • Business Source Premier - full text for nearly 1300 scholarly business journals.
  • MasterFILE Premier - full text for over 1800 periodicals covering general reference, business, health, and much more.
  • Professional Development Collection - over 240 full text journals designed for professional educators.
  • MAS FullTEXT Ultra - full text of over 540 general interest and current events magazines.
  • Books in Print with Reviews - full text reviews from nine leading sources.
  • Books Out of Print - information on titles pronounced "out of print" since 1979.
  • EBSCO Animals - indexing, abstracts, and full text records about the nature and habitat of familiar animals.
  • Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia
  • Middle Search Plus - for middle school and junior high students.
  • Primary Search - for elementary school students.  
  • Vocational Search - provides full text of over 200 vocational and general periodicals.

National Library of Medicine Databases
Patrons may use the library computers to access the databases listed below.   NLM provides free access to these databases to anyone with internet access. 

  • MEDLINE, 1966 - Present (updated daily).
  • AIDSLINE, covers research, clinical aspects, & health policy issues on AIDS.
  • AIDSDRUGS,  a dictionary of chemical and biological agents currently being evaluated.
  • AIDSTRIALS, contains over 700 records on AIDS clinical trials.
  • BIOETHICSLINE, ethics and related public policy issues in health care and biomedical research.
  • ChemID, dictionary of chemicals.
  • DIRLINE, directory of resources online providing primarily health and biomedical information.
  • HealthSTAR, covers health services, technology, administration and research.
  • HISTLINE, history of medicine and related sciences.
  • HSRPROJ, health services research projects in progress.
  • OLDMEDLINE, citations published in Index Medicus, from 1964-1965.
  • POPLINE, family planning, population law & policy, and primary health care, including maternal/child health in developing countries.
  • SDILINE, selective dissemination of information online contains citations from over 3,700 biomedical journals.
  • SPACELINE, space life sciences citations contributed by NASA.
  • TOXLINE, toxicological, pharmacological, biochemical, and physiological effects of drugs and other chemicals. 

University of Kentucky Proxy Server Access
UK Community Based Faculty, UK AHEC students, and UK Center for Rural Health faculty, staff, residents and students, can access many of the UK Library System's databases by using a proxy server.  The computers in the Southeast AHEC Library are set up for proxy access, but the patron must have his or her UK Library card in order to use the service.  For more information on the proxy server, please go to: http://www.mc.uky.edu/MedLibrary/InfoSrvcs/proxy.htm
