What is an OLLI Special Interest Group?

A SIG is a group of OLLI Members who have a common interest and get together at a location of their choosing, on their own schedule, determine their own content and events. After you register for a SIG, information on the meeting dates and times will follow. Must be a current OLLI member to participate.

1.GEOCACHING - Have you ever wanted to go on a high tech scavenger hunt? Do you already geocache on your own but would love to do it with a group? Are you interested in learning what this is? Geocaching is "a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location." from geocach-ing.com Join us at the orientation session to learn about geocaching, equipment you'll need, and allow our leaders to get you set up and ready for our first adventure. The group will decide at the orientation session dates to go geocaching---two dates will be scheduled per month.

2. Nature Walk - "Pickin' up paw paws, put 'em in your pocket ---" We may not find ripe paw paws but there are a lot of paw paw shrubs along the quarter mile boardwalk at the Corp of Engineers' Resource Manager Visitor Center on Boat Dock Road. We will walk the boardwalk looking for birds, plants, critters and anything else of interest followed by visiting the displays in the building. Bring binoculars if you have them. Note: There is a flight of steps at one end of the boardwalk.

Did you know that your local Leadership Council has been working all summer to put together these courses? We meet monthly throughout the year to brainstorm course ideas, potential instructors and class locations. We also work on ideas for special events, such as the picnic we held this Spring, getting the word out, and most recently, trip ideas. If you are interested in getting more involved, please let us know! Your OLLI can reach its full potential with everyone's involvement!
