Established in 1957 on the Lexington campus of Kentucky’s flagship university, the faculty, students and staff of our Medical Center take pride in achieving excellence in education, patient care, research and community service.

The UK Academic Medical Center encompasses the Colleges of Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy, and Public Health, as well as University of Kentucky Hospital, Kentucky Children's Hospital and the Centers of Excellence.

The mission of the UK Academic Medical Center is to help people of the commonwealth and beyond to gain and retain good health through creative leadership and quality initiatives in education, research, and service. Our vision is to become a top-20 academic health center recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in teaching, research and patient care.

Several recent accomplishments are among the hallmarks of our pride in this institution.

• Three of UK Chandler Hospital's programs were recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s 2007 edition of America’s Best Hospitals – a reflection of the breadth and depth of care delivered at UK. They are gynecology (27), ear, nose and throat (41) and cancer (46).
• UK Chandler Hospital was named one of the nation's 100 Top Performance Improvement Leaders by Thomson Healthcare in 2007. The hospital ranked among the top 15 academic medical centers in the nation for having faster and more consistent organization-wide improvement than most other teaching hospitals.
• The UK College of Medicine ranks 30th among public medical schools for research funding received from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). According to the most recent data, in 2005 the college's NIH funding totaled nearly $63 million.
• The UK College of Pharmacy was ranked eighth among all U.S. pharmacy schools offering graduate degrees in the 2008 "America’s Best Graduate Schools" issue of U.S. News & World Report.
• The UK College of Nursing ranks 26th among all public and private universities in U.S. News & World Report’s 2008 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools.  Among public nursing schools, UK ties for 18th.
• The UK College of Public Health, which entered the rankings for the first time in the short history of the college, is listed in 31st place in U.S. News & World Report’s 2008 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools. The college was created in 2004 and became accredited in 2005.
