The Center for
Structural Biology makes available to the research community at the
University
of
Kentucky
services and equipment for protein production and characterization. Protein
production equipment includes equipment for bacterial, yeast, insect and
mammalian cell culture, a large-scale cell-cracking device, and automated
chromatography systems for protein and peptide purification. Protein
characterization instruments include analytical spectroscopic instrumentation
(circular dichroism, dynamic light scattering, fluorometer), an isothermal
titration calorimeter, a TIRF illuminated microscope for single molecule and
cellular fluorescence experiments, and a state-of-the-art instrument for
collection of X-ray data from macromolecular crystals. The Center also oversees
facilities for X-ray crystallography at Argonne National Laboratory (SERCAT),
and computational resources for structure
determination and modeling. A
full time technician is available to assist in the use of instruments and to
provide services.
