Stock photographIn the world of the future, patients going from their family doctor to a specialist might never have to go to their doctor or hospital to pick up envelopes of heavy x-rays and files filled with indecipherable physician’s notes.

Instead, they may pick up USB memory sticks that fit in the palms of their hands. Or, they might never have to touch those records at all − hospitals may share records via secure computer networks.

If this vision comes true, paper and pen will become obsolete in American hospitals and clinics. Read full story
