UK Physical Therapy Student Wins Conference Scholarship

Kristen Tepe photographHAZARD, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2009) − Kristen Tepe, right, a student in the doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program at the University of Kentucky Center for Excellence in Rural Health in Hazard, recently received a $500 scholarship to fund her attendance at the American Physical Therapy Association’s upcoming National Student Conclave. Tepe, a northern Kentucky native who is in her second year in the DPT program, is one of approximately 2,500 students expected to attend the annual event, which is scheduled for Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in Miami. Among other things, attendees will learn about advances in the field of physical therapy, have an opportunity to network with current physical therapy professionals, and receive resume writing and job hunting tips. Here, Tepe receives a certificate from Ramona Carper, president of the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association, which sponsored an essay contest that resulted in three scholarship winners − Tepe and two students from Bellarmine University in Louisville.

The UK Center for Excellence in Rural Health, located at 750 Morton Blvd., works to improve the health of Kentucky’s Appalachian people through education, research, the provision of health care services and community engagement initiatives.
