Henry Mann

Henry J. Mann, PharmD is a native of Springfield, Missouri, but spent much of his early life in South Carolina and Germany before attending high school in Louisville, Kentucky.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (1976) and Doctor of Pharmacy (1980) degrees from the University of Kentucky where he completed a concurrent ASHP Residency Program under the preceptorship of Paul F. Parker, M.S., D.Sc., Director of Pharmacy Central Supply (1980). Dr. Mann joined the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy in 1980 where he developed clinical pharmacy services in surgery and critical care. He served the College of Pharmacy as Associate Department Head for Pharmacy Practice (1987-89, 1994-96), Associate Dean for Professional and External Relations (1996–2002) and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs (2006-2009). Dr. Mann was the founding director of the University of Minnesota’s interdisciplinary Center for Excellence in Critical Care (1998-2009) and the Partnership for Excellence in Critical Care (2002-2009) which is a national network focused on the translation of critical care research into practice. In July 2009 he was appointed as the Dean of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto. In this capacity he directs the largest research intensive pharmacy faculty in Canada and is responsible for the implementation of their entry level PharmD program which will educate 240 students per year.
 
Dr. Mann’s research has focused on the application of pharmacology and pharmacotherapy principles to critically ill patients.  His contributions to research and practice have been recognized by election as a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM), the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (FCCP), and the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (FASHP). He received the 1988 Research Award of the ASHP Research and Education Foundation and the Technology Enhanced Learning Award from the University of Minnesota in 1999. Dr. Mann was selected by the University of Minnesota as a Committee on Institutional Cooperation Academic Leadership Program Fellow for 1997-98. In 2002, he received the University of Minnesota Pharmacy Alumni Society Faculty Recognition Award and in 2004 he was selected by the College of Pharmacy to receive the Weaver Medal for Outstanding Contributions to the College.  Dr. Mann has published over 100 articles and abstracts and made more than 300 professional presentations.
