10/30/2009 - Former Residents Receive KSHP Awards

9/15/2009 - PGY2 Elected to National Fraternal Office
Sal Bottiglieri, Pharm.D., PGY2 Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Resident has been elected and installed on the Executive Board of Kappa Epsilon Fraternity as the National Secretary. Kappa Epsilon, Inc. is a national professional pharmacy fraternity whose major projects include breast cancer awareness as well as the pharmacy career opportunity recruitment project, a project developed to instill interest in pharmacy for high school students. 8/14/2009 - PGY2 Selected to Serve on National Committee
Congratulations to Kendall Gross, Pharm.D. (R#353), Critical Care (PGY2) Specialty Pharmacy Resident, who was selected by the University HealthSystem Consortium to serve on the UHC Research and Education Committee. The Pharmacy Research and Education Committee acts as a central coordinating body for the development of effective pharmacy-coordinated investigational drug services, promotes practice-based outcomes research, supports programs aimed at the professional education and development of pharmacy personnel, and facilitates institutional relationships with Colleges of Pharmacy. 7/1/2009 - Rapp – UK Pharmacy Icon - Retires
Robert Rapp, Pharm.D., FCCP, retired after a forty year career at the University of Kentucky. Having held positions from Pharmacy Intern through College of Pharmacy Department Chair, Professor, and Associate Director of Pharmacy Services, Bob has demonstrated unparalleled leadership and innovation in many of the outstanding pharmacy programs at the hospital and the college. Bob has been a leader in his own practice, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally in the worlds of pharmacy practice, pharmacy education, pharmacy administration, neurosurgery pharmacy practice, total parenteral nutrition, sterile products, and infectious diseases. A winner of the ACCP Parker Medal and UK Parker Award, Bob’s impact has been great. The memories and experiences have been truly unique and his presence will be sorely missed by the fine team of pharmacy residents, practitioners and leaders which he has encouraged, motivated, activated, educated, debated, precepted, empowered and mentored. 4/28/09 - Former Resident Named Dean
Congratulations to Henry Mann, PharmD, FASHP, FCCP, FCCM (R89) on accepting the position of Dean, Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto. Dr. Mann has served as faculty at the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy for the past 29 years, establishing the interdisciplinary Center for Excellence in Critical Care, which advances quality of care in ICUs across the United States. Dr. Mann joins former Kentucky residents Donald Letendre, PharmD (R76, University of Iowa), Robert Blouin, PharmD, FCCP (R53, University of North Carolina), and Joseph DiPiro, PharmD, FCCP (R93, University of South Carolina) as former UK residents who are now Deans at college of pharmacies. 3/21/09 - PGY2 Resident Receives ACCP Adult Medicine PRN Residency Research Award
We would like to congratulate Mike Farley, PharmD, PGY2 Internal Medicine Resident for receiving the ACCP Adult Medicine PRN Residency Research Award for his research entitled: "Characterization of a 24 hour pharmacist managed direct thrombin inhibitor (DTI) program". The purpose of this award is to provide an opportunity for a pharmacy resident or fellow to present and promote his or her current research efforts to the ACCP Adult Medicine PRN. Mike will present his research at the spring ACCP meeting in Orlando. Congratulations to T. Michael Farley, PharmD for being named Kentucky Society of Health-System Pharmacists (KSHP) Resident of the Year for his practice leadership and educational focus during his PGY1 residency at St. Claire Regional Medical Center (Morehead, Kentucky). Michael is currently the PGY2 internal medicine resident at UK.

10/2008 - Residency Preceptor Awarded ACCP's Highest Honor
Robert Rapp, PharmD, FCCP, was awarded the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Parker Medal for Distinguished Service to the Profession of Pharmacy at the ACCP Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Rapp is Professor of Pharmacy and Professor of Surgery in the Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine, respectively, at the University of Kentucky.
10/2008 - Two University of Kentucky Faculty Members Elected Fellows of ACCP
Melody Ryan, PharmD, MPH, BCPS, CGP and Kelly M. Smith, PharmD, BCPS, FASHP were elected Fellows of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and were recognized during a special ceremony on October 19 at the College’s 2008 Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky. Recognition as a Fellow is awarded to ACCP members who have demonstrated a sustained level of excellence in clinical pharmacy practice and/or research.
