Brian Kelty
My name is Brian Kelty, I am currently a 21 year old Biology senior at the University of Kentucky. When I am not in the lab or school, I’m usually at home with my future wife Chelsie and our son/dog Winston. Winston is a pug-beagle hybrid, or as they’re affectionately called, puggles. I hope to attend medical school next year but as of right now I’m still going through the rigors of the application process. I like to golf when I can and am trying to build up stamina on my bike to and from campus. I have been a UK wildcat fan since birth so you will find me in the stands and occasionally on the field during football season.
In the lab I began as a grunt washing dishes and making reagents among other things. For the past year I have been working on a enzyme known as Furin for two semesters of BIO 395 and during the summer with an Endocrine Society Summer Research Fellowship. Thus far we have determined the Furin mRNA pattern in the rat ovary, ovarian follicle, and granulosa cells during the ovulatory period. We’ve also looked at Furin mRNA location in the ovary by in situ hybridization. Currently we are trying to uncover more about Furin’s function in MMP activation and eventually ovulation.
