Specific Interest in Nutrition:

Dr. Clasey has specific interest in the role of physical activity, alone or in conjunction with other intervention strategies, to prevent or combat obesity and the metabolic syndrome. In addition, a strong interest in the theory and methodologies of total body, regional and compartmental body composition assessment.

Research:

The exponential rise in obesity and the prevalence of the associated metabolic syndrome has increased the need for identification of effective prevention and intervention strategies to combat this health care crisis. Dr. Clasey’s research efforts have been directed towards identifying optimal modes of exercise training to combat obesity and the metabolic syndrome in a variety of groups including children, diseased and disabled populations. The development of the University of Kentucky Body Composition Core Laboratory, and the University of Kentucky Pediatric Exercise Physiology Laboratory provide unique, state of the art facilities and resources designed to support testing and training intervention. Dr. Clasey’s laboratories collaborate with many investigators from a variety of colleges, departments, divisions, and centers to provide a diverse multidisciplinary approach to this clinical research.
