Awards/Honors

Ellen Hahn received a $10,000 award from UK for her Clean Indoor Air Partnership (CIAP), which was designated as a 2008 Commonwealth Collaborative. CIAP works to address the negative health effects of smoking, second-hand smoke, and radon. Partners include the Kentucky Department for Public Health, the Kentucky Radon Program, the State Office of Rural Health, the Kentucky League of Cities, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Chi Eta Phi Black Nurses’ Honorary Society, elected officials, and local health department professionals.

Patricia Burkhart was selected by the Society of Pediatric Nurses as the recipient of the 2007-08 Excellence in Nursing Research Award. The award, which will be officially presented at the SPN Annual Convention, April 2008, in Denver, will be recognized in SPN’s publications and web site. Burkhart also received Honorable Mention in the SPN Nursing Essay Contest. Her essay, “Evidence-Based Practice for Asthma Self-Management in Children,” was published in the SPN News, 17(1), 4-5; 7-8.
