Showcase highlights important work by
students, hospital nurses
The College’s third annual Student Scholarship
Showcase, held Fri., March 23, was another great scholarly
success for students at all levels, and this year for the first
time, nurses from UK Chandler Hospital.
Each year the showcase presents excellent scholarly projects
completed by students as part of their degree requirements. All
students are invited to submit oral or poster presentations.
This year we invited nurses from the hospital to submit poster
presentations of clinical or scholarly work in progress or
completed at the hospital.Assistant Professor
Mary DeLetter, chair of the event, said,
"The Scholarship
Showcase is a day when we give recognition to the exceptional
work of our students. Even before graduation, they improving
the health of Kentuckians, Americans, and people
worldwide."

Best Undergraduate Student Poster Presentation (photo "A"):
Factors Related to Asthma Quality of Life for U.S. and Icelandic
Adolescents; Jennifer Baumgardner, Ashleigh Ohlmann,
Patricia Burkhart, and Erla Svavarsdottir.
Best Master’s Student Podium Presentation(photo "B"):
Effects of Caregiver-Focused Community-Based Interventions on
Persons with Alzheimer’s Disease; Pamela Davis.
Best Master’s Student Poster Presentation (photo "C"):
Getting the Runaway Train Back on Track: When Bipolar Disorder
and Substance Abuse Occur Together; Maurine Hume, Ginny
Taylor, Topsy Staten, and Patricia B. Howard.
Best Doctoral Student Podium Presentation (photo "D"):
The Effect of Depression and Anxiety on Medication Adherence in
Patients with Heart Failure; Jia-Rong “Angela” Wu.
Best Doctoral Student Poster Presentation(photo "E"):
Comparison of Health-Related Quality of Life between Patients
with Heart Failure in the U.S. and Taiwan; Tsuey-Yuan Huang
and Debra Moser.
Best UK Chandler Hospital Poster Presentation (photo "F"):
Effects of Head-of-Bed Positioning and Length of Bed Rest in
Post-Cardiac Catheterization Manual Compression Patients on
Patient Discomfort (Back Pain) and Vascular Complications;
Linda Clements.
Also, the first recipient of the Pamela Kidd Scholarship was
announced: Kurt Krouse, a staff nurse with UK Chandler
Hospital’s Surgical ICU. We were honored to have as guests
members of Pam Kidd’s family.
