It’s an exciting time to be at the University of Kentucky and in the College of Nursing. The new UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital is scheduled for completion in 2011 and a new academic health center will help fuel the University’s Top 20 Business Plan. The College of Nursing’s faculty scholarly activity is ranked as ninth among both public and private universities, according to the 2005 Faculty Scholarly Activity Index. In addition, the College’s graduate program is tied for 26th in the nation according to U.S.News & World Report in its 2008 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools.
 

Undergraduate Tenure Track
These positions involve teaching in the undergraduate program and initiating a program of research. The new faculty will teach 40 percent and receive 50 percent time to actively pursue research. Qualifications include a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field and a master’s degree in nursing, as well as a strong commitment to undergraduate education and scholarship. A research start-up package is available. Priority will be given to a pediatric expert and to applicants with a medical/surgical background, ideally in adult critical care. Applicants with experience in adult health, community health, maternal/child health, and mental health are also invited to apply.

Pediatric Clinical Nursing Research and Education
This joint tenure track position is with the Kentucky Children’s Hospital and presents the opportunity to be part of a dynamic nursing team in a Magnet Hospital setting. Responsibilities include working with pediatric nursing staff to: implement a program of clinical research; support evidence-based practice; participate in educational programs including a post-baccalaureate residency program for new nursing graduates; and engage in interdisciplinary research and practice. Doctoral preparation with relevant clinical and academic experience is required. 

Psychiatric/Mental Health Advanced Practice Nursing
This tenure track position includes advanced practice education in psychiatric/mental health. Clinical practice opportunities may be negotiated. Qualifications include a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field and a master’s degree in nursing, experience and certification (preferably as a family psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner), experience teaching at the graduate level, and demonstrated commitment to scholarship. This position includes coordination of the graduate psychiatric/mental health track in the M.S.N. Program.

About the Medical Center and College of Nursing

The University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center is comprised of the Colleges of Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health. It also includes the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Children's Hospital, and is closely affiliated with the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center. All are teaching and research facilities.

The Medical Center draws on a wide area covering several states, with the principal catchment area in the Eastern Kentucky (Appalachian) Health Services Area. The Medical Center has developed a multitude of affiliations with organizations and agencies in targeted regions, including affiliations with federally funded community centers.

The College of Nursing, located in the six-story College of Nursing Building, is located just across the street from UK Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Children's Hospital. It offers accredited programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) degrees. The College has a well-established faculty research program, an active academic faculty practice program and continuing education program. Faculty scholarly activity is ranked as ninth in the nation among both public and private universities according to the 2005 Faculty Scholarly Activity Index, which ranked 7,300 doctoral programs nationwide. The index was published in the Jan. 12, 2007 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education. The College's graduate program is tied for 26th in the nation, according to U.S.News & World Report in its 2008 edition of "America's Best Graduate Schools."
