Faculty Council

Functions

  1. Provides liaison between faculty and administration on issues of concern.
     
  2. Represents the faculty of the College of Nursing in selected matters.
     
  3. Provides liaison between faculty of the College of Nursing, staff members, and the wider University community.
  1. Provides a forum for faculty discussion of current or impending issues.
     
  2. Develops and disseminates the opinions of faculty to other committees, task forces and work groups within the University at the direction of the faculty.
     
  3.  Represents the faculty of the College of Nursing to the wider University community on appropriate occasions.
  1. Identifies candidates and prepares ballots for all standing committees of the College of Nursing.
  1. Solicits nominations to faculty and administrative committees and councils.
     
  2. Obtains information regarding eligibility of nominees to faculty and administrative committees and councils.
     
  3. Prepares the slate of nominees for election to all faculty and administrative committees and councils.
     
  4. Distributes slate of nominees for faculty election purposes in a timely manner.
     
  5. Tabulates and notifies faculty of the results of faculty election.
  1. Reviews Faculty Bylaws of the College of Nursing and recommends changes or modifications to the faculty.
     
  2. Makes recommendations for faculty development activities as appropriate.
     
  3. Implements the evaluation responsibilities listed in the College of Nursing Evaluation Plan.
     
  4. Makes recommendations to faculty based on program evaluation.
     
  5. Evaluates the usefulness of the College of Nursing Evaluation Plan in relation to the Faculty Council and recommends revisions in the plan as needed.
     
  6. Appoints faculty members to the Professional Code Committee in September or October of each year to maintain the following composition:  two faculty members with a minimum of five years full-time experience as a faculty member (at least three years at UK CON) to serve as faculty chair and faculty co-chair.

Membership

  1. Five faculty, two of whom must be tenured and one who may be part time.
     
  2. The Dean of the College of Nursing, ex officio.
     
  3. The chair of this council shall be elected from its full time membership.
     
  4. All elected members of this council shall have voting privileges.

Terms of Office

  1. Faculty members elected to this council shall serve for staggered two-year terms, three persons in odd years and two persons in even years. One tenured member elected staggered terms.
