Karen Butler received her undergraduate degree from the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned a Master of Science
in Nursing from the University of Kentucky. In May 2006, she
completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice, also at UK and upon
graduation received the first Sebastian-Stanhope Award, given
annually to an exemplary D.N.P. student. Butler is an
assistant professor
and course coordinator in the undergraduate program and teaches
in the D.N.P. Program as well. In 2006, she joined the Tobacco
Research Policy Program as a faculty associate. She has clinical
interests in the areas of nursing leadership, adult nursing and
health promotion, and research interests in health issues of
college students, evidence-based practice, and tobacco treatment
and prevention policy.
Her work related to nursing education, leadership,
evidence-based nursing practice and college student health
issues has been published in a variety of journals, including
Nursing Leadership Forum and Worldviews on Evidence-based
Nursing.
Butler contributes to the nursing profession and community as
well. She is a member of eight professional organizations and
actively participates in community endeavors, volunteering her
time and talents to improve the health of Kentuckians. |
