Hope Center

The nurse-managed clinic at the Hope Center, a shelter for homeless, adult men,  is a cooperative effort between the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, and the Hope Center. The clinic's services are available to homeless and at-risk individuals in Lexington. Financial support includes funds from the Health Resources and Services Administration Primary Care  grant via the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, the College of Nursing,  and the Hope Center.

The clinic, operated by faculty and staff from the College of Nursing, treats problems often compounded by years of neglect and works toward prevention of other health problems. In addition to the community's benefit, students from the College gain valuable clinical experience working in the clinic.

    Services available include:

  • care for acute and chronic health problems
  • provision of essential selected medications and vitamins
  • selected laboratory and diagnostic services
  • annual flu vaccine clinic
  • health education programs in nutrition, exercise, substance abuse, stress, personal hygiene, care of common illnesses and effects of weather
  • referrals for limited vision and dental services
  • referral to  other community agencies as needed such as Health Department for physician care, surgery on Sunday,  free or reduced Pharmaceutical services
  • related pamphlets
  • emergency care and referral.
