Introduction

Nurse Managers play a key role in assuring high quality care and a satisfying work environment. Current concerns about patient safety, quality of care, health care disparities and nursing workforce issues cannot be fully addressed without clinically focused nursing leadership. Nurses with advanced clinical skills, as well as financial, organizational and leadership abilities will move health care forward in health care agencies. Findings from magnet hospital studies show that the impact of nurse managers on the quality of care and job satisfaction of staff nurses is significant. Such environments attract and retain nurses and are more likely to yield better clinical outcomes including mortality and prevention of errors.

The Nursing Management Track aims to increase the number of master’s prepared nurse managers who have the skills and knowledge needed to address the rising issues in health care.
