Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P. Degree)

Profound changes in contemporary health care - including pressures to improve quality of care while reducing costs, improving access, and eliminating disparities - have increased demands for nurses to assume major leadership roles in clinical and management arenas.

The D.N.P. presents a clinical practice-oriented leadership development opportunity that focuses on evidence-based practice and on research utilization for the improvement of clinical care delivery, patient outcomes, and system management. Graduates will be expert in designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating health care delivery systems and will be prepared to lead at the highest clinical and executive ranks.

The program offers:

  • Clinical Leadership and Executive Management tracks
  • Clinical residency
  • Cognates in the student's area of interest
  • Faculty known nationally and internationally for work in their specialties
  • Close work with clinical mentors
  • Classes that mix online work with on-campus work*

* D.N.P. nursing courses are Web-enhanced and require attendance at class meetings approximately once per month on UK's campus. These classes meet on a Friday evening (4-8 p.m.) or Saturday (8 a.m. - noon and 1-5 p.m.) five times each semester.

Priority deadline for fall admission is Feb. 15. Applications received after Feb. 15 are considered on a space-available basis. Applications are reviewed as they are received in complete form.

You could be eligible for free tuition!

If you work full time for University of Kentucky Hospital or Kentucky Children's Hospital you are eligible for up to 8 credit hours in free tuition each semester. More...
