Application Procedure for Traditional
B.S.N.
Students (no prior degree in any area)

March 1 is the deadline for receipt of all application materials to the four-year B.S.N. Program. This affects all sophomores applying for fall or spring admission to the professional nursing curriculum.

This updated information may be different from what you have read on other forms. Disregard any other instructions that you may read – or hear from another student.

Admission to the College of Nursing is a two-step process:

  1. A student is admitted as a pre-nursing major. This is a general admission to the University and to the College of Nursing. Admission to pre-nursing does not guarantee admission to the Professional Nursing Curriculum.
  2. A separate application process is required to enroll in Professional Nursing. All application materials must be received by the College of Nursing Office of Student Services by March 1 of the calendar year in which prerequisites will be completed. Students are admitted for fall or spring semesters. Admission is competitive. Once the College of Nursing receives an application, a student’s academic records are reviewed to determine eligibility for admission to the Professional Nursing Curriculum.

The deadline for completed College of Nursing applications is March 1. To meet this deadline, the following materials must be on file with the College of Nursing (mail to UK College of Nursing, 315 CON Bldg., Lexington, KY 40536-0232):

  • College of Nursing Application for the B.S.N. Program

  • myUK (formerly webUK) transcript with your most recent grades earned prior to the application deadline.

  • All entering students must have Certified Nursing Assistant certification before they begin their first clinical course which takes place during the first semester of the sophomore year.

Acceptance into the program

Final decisions will be made after spring semester grades are available. If you are a UK student, you do not need to submit spring grades. If you are enrolled at another institution, you will need to submit spring grades. We will accept a grade report or unofficial transcript from your school’s student system until an official transcript is available.
