You are welcome to pick up an application in our
Student Services Office, 309 College of Nursing Bldg., or e-mail
a request to CONSS@uky.edu, or view/print application materials
from our Web site at www.mc.uky.edu/Nursing/academic/. If you
e-mail your request, be sure to give us a full name and address.
The application process for the M.S.N. and Ph.D.
academic degrees involve two departments: the University of
Kentucky Graduate School and the College of Nursing. Students
must complete applications to both departments before an
official admission decision can be made. Each department has a
separate application and requirements. Once applications to both
departments are complete the College of Nursing notifies the
Graduate School of the faculty decision. Students are admitted
to the Graduate School with a nursing major.
Applicants to the professional doctorate (D.N.P.) program apply
only to the University of Kentucky College of Nursing.
The College of Nursing graduate application
deadlines are noted below. Applications received after the
deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.
- February 15 for fall semester
- November 1 for spring semester
- (Note: R.N.-M.S.N. and D.N.P. programs
admit only for the fall term
You can apply without having completed all the
application requirements, and we will process your GRE scores
and other items as received. However, be aware that your
application is not complete until we have all materials required
by the UK Graduate School and College of Nursing, including GRE
scores. No decision will be made regarding your application
until it is complete.
The GRE is required for all applicants to our
graduate nursing programs. We do not waive the GRE.
The GRE (Graduate Record Exam) General Test is a
computer-based test required by our graduate programs. The
General Test consists of three sections: verbal, quantitative
and analytic writing. For information about the test and
availability in your area, go to the GRE Web site, www.gre.org.
You can obtain a copy of the GRE Information and Registration
Bulletin from the College of Nursing Office of Student Services,
room 309.
Individuals who have never taken a computer-based exam are
encouraged to review and practice for the GRE using CD-based
review materials as the test taking experience and strategy is
much different from the pencil and paper exams. Computer-based
exams require that you answer questions in order to receive
questions. There is no skipping ahead or going back.
No. However, you can register on the GRE Web
site to take the GRE in Lexington. The Lexington testing center
is:
Thompson Prometric Testing Center
2573 Richmond Rd., Suite 260
Lexington, KY 40509
Not necessarily. We must obtain your scores
from an official source which could be the master’s program from
which you graduated. In this case you would ask that school to
send a letter to the College of Nursing certifying that they
have official GRE scores on file from ETS and provide us a copy
of those scores. Also, if you have your original personal scores
in the official mailer those scores may be considered.

Once the College of Nursing has received all
required application materials and we have been notified by the
Graduate School that your application to that department is
complete we will contact you to arrange for interview(s) with
nursing faculty. After the interview with faculty is complete we
will ask faculty in that program to review your application and
make a formal recommendation regarding admission to the Graduate
School.
The College of Nursing student affairs officer
will be in touch with you periodically notifying you of what is
missing from your application and advising you regarding the
next step in the process.
Information regarding student loans, financial
aid and college service and non-service awards is available on
