Application Procedure for Second Degree B.S.N. Students

March 1 is the deadline for all application materials.

This updated information may be different from what you have read on other forms. Disregard any other instructions that you may read – or hear from another student. These instructions pertain to the 2009-2010 academic year.

Applying to the Second Degree B.S.N. Option is a dual process:

1) Apply to the University of Kentucky through the Office of Undergraduate Admission. On the application, specify College-NU, Major-PNUI, and Degree-BSN.

2) At the same time, apply to the College of Nursing.

The following materials must reach the College of Nursing by March 1. (Mail to UK College of Nursing, 315 CON Bldg., Lexington, KY 40536-0232): Applications will be reviewed to select applicants for interviews in April.

  • College of Nursing Application for the B.S.N. Program*

  • Transcript (unofficial is acceptable) and list of current courses

  • Statement of purpose in pursuing a B.S.N.

  • Certification from a certified nurse aide course (If you are enrolled in this course at UK, let us know. We will also accept verification of enrollment in a nurse aide course that will be completed before the first day of classes.) Currently, the requirement is waived to APPLY. It must be completed if you are accepted into the program.

Statement of Purpose
Please include a one-page, typed statement outlining your reasons for pursuing a change in career.  Include factors that contributed to your decision, your experiences and/or abilities you believe are important for nursing, and your career expectations.

Interviews
I
nterviews will be held during spring 2010. Watch this page for specific dates.  Students will not be admitted who do not complete an interview.  Applicants are selected for interview after an initial screening of the application and transcript

Acceptance into the program

Final decisions will be made after spring semester grades are available. If you are a UK student, you do not need to submit spring grades. If you are enrolled at another institution, you will need to submit spring grades. We will accept a grade report or unofficial transcript from your school’s student system until a transcript is available.
