Post-Graduate Clinical Scholars Certificate Option
(Post-master's)

Do you already have a master's or doctoral degree in nursing but would like to add a new area of specialization to your practice? Maybe you're a board-certified advanced practice nurse and would like to be eligible for board certification in another area to strengthen and complement your current practice. Then our Post-graduate Clinical Scholars Certificate option may be just right for you.

This option builds on the knowledge and skills base of an advanced practice nurse in an additional specialty. As in the regular master's program, research utilization, evidence-based practice, and leadership are emphasized.

A mix of learning methods is employed, including web-based course assignments and face-to-face course work. Specialty courses in most tracks meet once each week (public health nursing meets monthly).

The program is ranked 26th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its 2008 edition of "America's Best Graduate Schools." (Seven of the institutions ahead of our program are private.)

The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Post-Master's level tracks and subspecialty areas include:

  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Parent-Child Nursing (Neonatal/Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner)
  • Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Geriatric Nurse Practitioner)
  • Public Health Nursing (Public Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, Public Health Nursing Management, Nursing Care Management)

The entire College and Nursing and Graduate School application process should be completed by Feb. 15 for the fall semester and by Nov. 1 for the spring semester. Applications received after these dates will be accepted on a space-available basis. (Note: M.S.N. degree-seeking students are given priority in admission to specialty tracks. Therefore, we regret that Post-M.S.N. certificate space is limited.)

You could be eligible for free tuition!

If you work full time for University of Kentucky Hospital or Kentucky Children's Hospital you are eligible for up to 8 credit hours in free tuition each semester. More...
