Changes in Delta Psi Leadership for 2007-2008

As the new President of the Delta Psi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, I would like to say “Hello” and “Welcome” to all new and renewing Delta Psi members!  This year has started on an exciting note with several changes in our leadership positions.  Lee Ann Walmsley is the new Vice-President and Fontaine Sands is the new Treasurer, while Linda Watts will continue as our Secretary.  Additional changes have occurred with several committees

From its beginnings in 1922, Sigma Theta Tau has served to advance knowledge, promote learning, and foster service through nursing scholarship and leadership.  The society has furthered these goals through academic excellence and social and ethical commitment to addressing public, health care, and nursing issues influencing the health and health care of people in the United States and throughout the world.  In addition, the society has provided a forum for nurses and others to share knowledge, discuss health care and attendant concerns, and evaluate changes in health care and health policies.

For 28 years, Delta Psi has maintained a proud tradition of advancing the goals of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.  As the new president, my goals are to (1) increase communication with all members, and (2) strengthen ties between the academic, clinical, and community sectors and their members.  To that end, I want to encourage participation from all our members and to make myself as available as possible to all of you.  I can be reached at:  dshall1@email.uky.edu or at 257-4041.   I appeal to each of you to become involved in our chapter and to contact me with any suggestions, ideas, etc. of how the chapter can become more relevant to you.

More changes to the website will be forthcoming, as we plan on making more interactive links, improving the ability to register and pay to attend events on-line, and to have a monthly drawing for a gift certificate to Joseph-Beth Booksellers.

Sigma Theta Tau is holding the 39th Biennial Convention on 2-7 November, 2007 in Baltimore, Maryland.  The theme is:  Vision to Action – Global Health Through Collaboration

Fontaine and I will be attending, and we hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Debra S. Hall, Ph.D., R.N., CCRN
President, Delta Psi
