Antibiotics  Update

Location: Spindletop Hall, Lexington, Ky.

Faculty: John M. Tiggelaar, Pharm.D., practicing pharmacist with expertise in primary care pharmacy practice. He also is an assistant professor at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and a faculty member at Eastern Kentucky University in the Department of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing. Tiggelaar has given numerous educational talks over the years to various groups including diabetic nurse educators and nurses.

Purpose: To provide health care providers an update on antibiotics for best management of patients with common infectious conditions and an update on
medications for best management of patients with pain.

Objectives: Attendees will be able to:

  • state the important considerations for selection of antimicrobials

  • recall the pharmacokinetic properties of antimicrobials

  • describe factors that are important in considering selection of an antibiotic

  • explain the appropriate use of pain medication for best results for patients with both acute and chronic pain

Target audience: Nurse specialists, nurses, and other health care providers
